Ian's
Background
Ian’s lifelong passion for
alternative approaches to healing and personal
transformation began with his exploration of herbal
medicines and flower essences while still a teenager. He
went on to train in reflexology and radionics and then
graduated as a homeopath in 1988. Ian became
internationally known through his homeopathic books and inspirational seminars
throughout the 1990's, many of which are still
available in MP3 and CD formats.
In 1993 he co-founded The Lakeland College as an
expression of his ideal that learning healing skills must
go hand in hand with the inner development of the student
practitioner. He resigned as a director of the college in
2003 to pursue his interest in other forms of
self-healing and inner growth.
Ian has consistently been drawn towards pioneers who have
developed innovative, simple and powerful ways to
facilitate the healing process. Recognizing the
importance of emotional release as a crucial component of
self-healing, he trained in Shen Therapy, developed by
Richard Pavek, and later in Journey Process™ work with
Brandon Bays. He also studied the release techniques
developed by Lester Levenson, and the Emotional Freedom
Technique pioneered by Gary Craig and others.
Ian has long considered that the key ingredient in any
self-healing process is a transformation in
consciousness. This belief has led him to make an
extensive study of the works of Joseph Campbell, Carl
Jung, Marion Woodman, R.D. Laing, Milton Erickson, Arnold
Mindell and many others who have contributed to a deeper
understanding of psychological and spiritual well-being.
Ian has travelled widely and has been privileged to work
with individuals and groups throughout the world. He was
one of the first lecturers to teach homeopathy in Cairo,
Egypt, and has been a regular vistor ever since. He has
also given lectures, seminars and retreats in Australia,
Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, France,
Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Serbia,
Spain and the United States.
Ian has had a lifelong interest in the spiritual and
mystical teachings from both the western and eastern
traditions, and from ancient to modern times. His vision
of healing is encapsulated in this excerpt from his
book, The Tao of
Homeopathy:
‘True
healing involves a growth in consciousness, an opening in
awareness and a return to oneself. Everything else is
symptom relief.’
Since retiring from homeopathic clinical work and The
Lakeland College, Ian has developed a completely new
practice, offering individual consultations to those who
are looking to engage more deeply with their own growth
process. He prefers to work individually with each
client, tailoring the work according to the needs of the
person rather than offering a standardized regime.
Ian continues to run a regular programme of group
seminars and
retreats, reflecting his most
recent understandings about the healing journey. He is
also a guest facilitator at numerous training
establishments and for groups throughout the world.
Ian lives in Dartington, Devon with his wife, Gaby and
daughter, Alicia.
