Basata Accommodation, Meals & Activities
There
are three accommodation options available:
1.
The camping area: where you can pitch a tent or
make use of the existing wind-shelters there. During
warmer times, a lot of guests prefer to sleep under the
desert sky.
2.
The huts: made out of bamboo and simply
furnished with rugs and mats; no water or
electricity.
3.
The chalets: small houses made out of clay
stone and furnished in a very cozy Bedouin style; these
have electricity and each has its own bathroom.
The guests in both the camping area and the huts share
the communal bathrooms of the camp.

Meals
Our camp
is run on a self-service basis: we have a kitchen area
where you find drinks, fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy
products, canned food, pasta, eggs, etc.; in our “cooking
corner” you can then prepare your own meal or make tea
any time you wish. We also feature a small bakery that
produces fresh bread and feta pockets every morning as
well as pizza around noon time.
Dinner is the only meal we serve; we serve fish every
other day and the rest of the days we serve a vegetarian
meal. It is up to you to either join our guests for a
communal dinner or prepare your own meal. The meal prices
are:
-
Fish meal: 70L.E. per meal
- Vegetarian meal: 50 L.E. per meal
Please note that all prices
are subject to 15% tax.
Activities
We do not
allow SCUBA diving in our waters to preserve the corals;
snorkeling, however, is highly recommended. We rent
snorkel, mask, and flippers at the price of40 L.E. for a
full day.
We also organize safaris and camel treks. These can be
readily organized in Basata according to the desired
duration and destination. The price for a jeep safari to
the Colored Canyon is 720 L.E. per jeep per day (for up
to 6 persons); and for camel safaris the price is 200
L.E. per camel per day. The price includes provisions for
the duration of your excursion as well as fees for the
necessary permits. The price does not include the cost
for the drinking water nor the transportation to the
camel station (in the case of a jeep safari, the guests
are picked up by the jeep).
We also have taxis stationed at Basata; these can take
you to the see-worthy Monastery of St.Catherine or to the
cities nearby (Nuweiba, Dahab).
I hope this gives you a clearer idea about our camp. You
can also look us up in Google under “Basata” as many of
our regular guests feature us on their homepages, and you
can also find a lot of articles about us.
